Living with hoarding can be overwhelming. It affects not only the physical space but also mental and emotional well-being. On February 13th 2026, we will launch our Newtownards Hoarding Support Group to provide practical support for people struggling with hoarding, chronic disorganization, and self-neglect. This service aims to help individuals regain control over their living environments while addressing the mental and physical health challenges that often accompany hoarding behaviours.

Understanding the Challenges of Hoarding
Hoarding is more than just collecting items. It often involves difficulty discarding possessions, leading to clutter that disrupts daily life. This clutter can create unsafe living conditions, increase stress, and isolate individuals from friends and family. Many people living with hoarding also face mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or trauma, which complicate their ability to seek help or make changes.
Chronic disorganization and self-neglect often go hand in hand with hoarding. These conditions can make it hard to maintain basic hygiene, manage household tasks, or keep living spaces safe. Without support, these challenges tend to worsen over time.
What This Hoarding Support Group in Newtownards Offers
The new service launching in February 2026 focuses on providing practical, compassionate support tailored to the unique needs of people living with hoarding and related challenges. It combines mental health support with hands-on assistance to create lasting change.
Key Features of the Service
Personalized Support Plans
Each individual receives a plan designed around their specific situation, goals, and comfort level. This ensures that support feels manageable and respectful.
Mental Health Assistance
The service connects clients with mental health professionals who understand hoarding and its impact. This includes counselling, coping strategies, and referrals to specialized care if needed.
Ongoing Follow-up
Change takes time. The service offers continued check-ins and support to help maintain progress and prevent relapse.
Education and Resources
Clients and their families gain access to information about hoarding, mental health, and practical tips for maintaining organized spaces.
Why This Service Matters
Many people living with hoarding feel isolated and misunderstood. Traditional cleaning or organizing services often do not address the emotional and psychological aspects of hoarding. This new service fills that gap by combining practical help with mental health support.
